GJHS senior Trinity Bellgardt won a state-wide art contest

Grand Junction High School senior Trinity Bellgardt won first place in the Colorado high school division of the Youth Art Month (Y.A.M.) competition.
“Youth Art Month is a month of promoting art and art education throughout the United States. It is observed by thousands of schools nationwide, and we have been a part of that both this year and previously,” said Sean Henry, GJHS art teacher.
Henry states that it certainly takes a lot of time and effort to create quality work, and Bellgardt sure did put in that time and effort.
“Students have to be willing to put in the time to make their work to a level that would be acceptable for competition. This year we had several, and Trinity’s was chosen!”
GJHS has participated in the youth art event for the past 4-5 years. Anyone can participate in it if they chose to do so, but it is mostly offered to art club students or students who have taken, or are in an art class.
Although Bellgardt has been doing art since 6th grade, there are still things that are hard for her to do.
“I’m not very good at drawing and painting mountains, trees, stuff like that so that was definitely a challenge for me,” said Bellgardt.
Bellgardt’s winning artwork will be displayed at the State Capitol and published in the Youth Art Month Book for 2022.
