The Grand Junction High School chapter of National Honors Society inducted a school record of 74 inductees on April 1.
According to GJHS English teacher and the NHS chapter advisor Mariah McCune, students in NHS must have a 3.5 GPA alongside filling out a candidate form. Once the student fills out the candidate form, an NHS faculty council will review the candidate form. If they receive a 22 or higher on the rubric, they will be invited to the NHS induction ceremony.
“I think it’s indicative of the growing size of Grand Junction’s community, the fact that we have more students than before,” said GJHS senior NHS member Cooper Teske.
NHS saw an enormous dip in members during COVID-19 pandemic, but enrollment has been steadily increasing according to McCune.
“Get your hours done. Get them done quick. Don’t wait until the last minute,” said Teske.
Last year NHS inducted 52 GJHS students, McCune said.
