Tea Club is a place where students can enjoy tea, desserts, and meet new people before their next class.
It is located in room 303 and takes place on Wednesdays during lunch. It is run by GJHS French teacher Jodee Cronk and offers tea, sweets, and an environment where students can unwind and chat with friends.
“We drink tea, obviously. You show up, and there are thrifted tea cups or to-go tea cups based on how much time you want. There’s a bunch of different types of tea on a table, there’s usually one or two desserts when you get there, and you just drink tea, talk with people, and eat desserts. Sometimes they’ll have a movie; for Halloween, they were playing Coraline,” said GJHS freshman Amelia Breedlove, a member of Tea Club.
The Tea Club was started by GJHS junior Lilamae Tijerina. Tijerina said she started Tea Club because there was a tea club in her middle school. Tijerina also has goals for Tea Club.
“Make a space for people to relax before tests, or before anything stressful from school. Just sort of a relaxed place to be,” Tijerina said.
Tea Club also offers plant-based milk, and most of the desserts are vegetarian or vegan.
“We usually drink tea, or we chat about random subjects. It’s a pretty relaxed club. We don’t really have anything specific that we’re doing, but we do just drink tea and hang out,” said Tijerina.
Tea Club tries to be a welcoming environment for all types of students.
“Everyone at Tea Club, I feel, is really welcoming. I’ve been able to socialize with a lot of people, and I got to know [Cronk] better. She’s really nice, and everyone at Tea Club is really nice. It’s gotten a lot busier; more people have been showing up lately, which I think is really cool,” said Breedlove.
The Tea Club hopes to welcome more students as time goes on.
