Grand Junction High School sophomore Mayble Dean won first place at the 16th Annual Bank of Colorado Calendar Contest.

This was Dean’s 3rd consecutive year winning this art contest.

“Nothing really inspired me, I just really like snakes and flowers,” said Dean of her winning artwork.

The contest is held by the Bank of Colorado. After submitting a piece of art, the voting took place on The Bank of Colorado’s Facebook page.

Dean used Micron pens and pencils for her artwork that took eight hours to complete. The finished product is indicative of the amount of time and dedication she puts into her art.

“For the last 14 years The Bank of Colorado has put on a calendar contest, that is for students in every grade in the grand valley,” said GJHS art teacher Sean Henry. He said winners at every grade level get $300 dollars, second place $200 dollars, and third place $100 dollars.

Dean won $300 dollars in the sophomore category.
