Poetry Slam in GJHS Library
Poetry Slam in GJHS Library on Thursday April 27th
There will be a poetry slam in GJHS library on Thursday, April 27th during lunch.
The poetry slam is a safe place for people to express their emotion and read their poems to an audience. Many people also go to watch what people have written, it’s open for anyone in GJHS who wants to watch.
For anyone interested in reading the librarian Pam Middlemas said, “You need to have three original poems.”
There are a few things to take into account before attending the Poetry Slam. Many people write about topics that can be hard to talk about so everyone is told to be respectful to others. People are also expected to participate, it can be snapping for the reader who just read or being asked to judge the poetry slam.
Corran Gandy said, “I think people should come because I think poetry is so underrated, a lot of people think it’s the posh stuff you read in your english classes but poetry can be whatever you want it to be.”
A couple more things to keep in mind for the poets is, poems shouldn’t be longer than three minutes and practice reading your poem out loud.
There are three rounds in the poetry slam. The first and second are elimination rounds and the last round is the winner reading their third poem.
