Prom week is a quintessential high school moment for many Grand Junction High School students.
Whether it’s dressing up with your friends, participating in spirit weeks, the mosh pit, or the after-parties, prom has a little something for everyone.
This year’s prom theme is one of elegance and style. A Night in Versailles is bringing pastels, pearls, gold ordnance, and delicious French desserts.
Prom will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m..
Prom will not be in the Colorado Mesa University ballroom like last year, but instead on the driving range at the Bookcliff Country Club. The DJ and the dance floor will be set up on the driving range, while students will have access to the balcony and sitting area inside the balcony doors, where French Desserts, such as Macarons, will be catered by Melissa Barney.
Students will enter through the side entrance down by the swimming pool, where a sidewalk path will lead participants to a purple and white flower arch marking the dance entrance.
There will also be a photo-op placed by the entrance consisting of lit-up trees, gold picture frames, and a decorated mirror, staying true to the Versailles theme. There will be vintage Polaroid pictures for sale for around 5 dollars, or students can ask the photographer to take photos with their own cell phone or camera for free.
The dance, while the main portion for many, is not the only event going into prom week.
There will be a spirit week the week before the dance. The themes are rumored to start with a Pastel Day, where students will wear pastel colored clothes. Secondly, there will be a Toes Out Tuesday, encouraging students to wear sandals or flip-flops. Thirdly, Wednesday will be an Adam Sandler Day, where students will dress in baggy clothes to accomplish the classic Adam Sandler look. Fourthly, Thursday will be Throwback Thursday, centered around Y2K styles. Finally, the week will end with the traditional Orange and Black day; however, seniors will be encouraged to represent their colleges if they are choosing to pursue that path.
For students looking for dresses, shoes, or suits, the Haberdashery is run by GJHS French teacher Jodee Cronk, an always available resource for students.
“Dresses and shoes for girls are available for any student to take! While suits and shoes for gentlemen will be available to check out as long as you return them,” said Cronk.
Prom week will also consist of a prom week assembly, where spring sports will be recognized along with the winners of GJHS Student Council elections. Students will also participate in games put on by StuCo, and end the assembly with the GJHS fight song.
Finally, prom week will end with the Booster Club-sponsored After Prom. Information for this event can be found on the GJHS website and on flyers around the school. Many GJHS students are still looking forward to the event, which is the booster club After Prom.
