On Monday, April 20, the GJHS Student Council hosted an assembly focused on the election of the 2026-2027 school year representatives.

For the co-body presidents, the election was between juniors Parker Richter and Blake Hawkins, and juniors Peyton McKinley and Ellery Barney. Both pairs gave their speeches in an attempt to earn votes for the election. Following the election, McKinley and Barney were declared the 2026-2027 StuCo co-body presidents.

During this assembly, the three candidates for the sophomore, junior, and senior class president seats also gave their speeches. All three were the only names on their respective ballots. Will Zentner was the candidate for sophomore class president, Emmaline Crawford was the candidate for junior class president and Harrison Zentner was the candidate for senior class president. All three were elected to their respective positions.

“[The election] was great for everyone, a lot of people were unopposed, so not really much like fighting or campaigning,” said Will Zentner.

According to GJHS social studies teacher and StuCo advisor Mark Wilson, this election went very smoothly. Notably, he shared that there was about a 130-student increase in voting turnout compared to last year.

After the speeches, there was an Academic Team celebration in which teachers faced several players from the team in a game. The Academic Team defeated the team of teachers by a score of 10-0.
