The Grand Junction music department is putting on the Spring Choir Concert on Monday, April 20.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the GJHS Auditorium, featuring Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Men’s Choir, Advanced Treble Choir, and two jazz choirs Westwinds and Chromatics. The event is free to attend.

GJHS senior Melissa Shute said she is looking forward to singing the song “High Flight” as part of the Mixed Choir.

“It’s kinda depressing but it’s really interesting,” Shute said, “I just like being able to sing and try out new languages.”

As the spring concert comes closer, the students continue to practice their music and get ready for the concert.

“As long as you practice your work, you can do really well,” Shute said.

The concert will be led by GJHS Choir teacher Brad Hirsh.

GJHS senior Russell White, who studied abroad in Japan, will open the concert with a piano solo and direct a song in Japanese. GJHS senior Lexi Walpole will perform an original song; the treble jazz choir Chromatics will premier a new arrangement of the song “Carry On” and GJHS senior Darey Duran will end the concert leading a mariachi set.

Editor’s note: Lily Mugni is a GJHS freshman currently enrolled in a reporting class.
