The Grand Junction High School Theater is preparing to perform their spring musical Hadestown.
Hadestown is a Broadway musical that reinterprets Greek mythology based on two pairs of lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, along with Hades and Persephone. The musical takes place during the Great Depression, and it explores the power of love during a tragedy.
“There are so many amazing people who are a part of the musical, and we are all there to tell a story and we are all doing something we love,” said GJHS junior Sarah Richards.
The production will be led by GJHS drama teacher Bryan Carlson. Richards and GJHS senior Jacob Grigware play the lead roles of Eurydice and Orpheus, respectively.
“Eurydice is one of my dream roles, so I am really thankful I got it,” said Richards.
The cast has been preparing for this show since the beginning of January and rehearses each day after school.
The musical’s opening night is Friday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the GJHS auditorium. Other show times are Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 6 at 7 p.m., and March 7 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. All showings will be held in the GJHS auditorium.
Later this spring, Colorado Mesa University will tour several Broadway productions at Asteria Theatre, which includes Hadestown on May 1 and 2. Other productions include The Book of Mormon on March 10 and 11 and Chicago on April 22 and 23.
