The Grand Junction High School Academic Team continues to dominate the 2024-25 season.
After securing a victory in the regional qualifier and finishing second at the Colorado State Quiz Bowl, they are now set to compete at the Quiz Bowl Nationals and State Knowledge Bowl.
The positivity within the team has played a huge part in their impressive performance both this year and in the past.
“This season has gone really well. Our team works really well together and are super fun to be around,” said GJHS junior and academic team member Tiegan Osborn.
Despite the loss of nine seniors from last year’s team, they didn’t let it stop them from being successful, winning all but one of the tournaments they’ve competed in so far.
“We only have four seniors. The whole team, whether it’s JV or varsity, has put in a tremendous amount of work,” said GJHS teacher and academic team coach Coady Shawcroft.
With all their achievements thus far, the future’s looking bright for the team.
“We have the highest regional score going into the state competition. So we are the favorite to win,” said Shawcroft.
Along with amazing wins, the whole team has gained great experiences that have helped them grow academically and personally. Whether they are a freshman or senior, everyone is able to take something away from their time on the team.
“It’s a really good experience and you learn how to work hard to get to the level that everyone is at,” said GJHS freshman Rowan Pizem.
Looking ahead, the GJHS Academic Team has set their sights on national recognition and continuing their winning streak. As they head into the final stretch of the season, the work they have put in so far will help them to compete for another national title.
