Grand Junction High School students are now able to view the new legacy bricks that add to the tradition of our community.
The new bricks have already been placed in front of the school along with the old bricks from the original tiger walk at the old GJHS campus. The old bricks were pulled up and saved from the south end of the old building.
There are plans for more bricks to be placed near the small tiger statue by the bus loop.
“Close to 400 of the small bricks were sold and 200 of the 8×8,” said Karen Provenza, GJHS principal secretary. “Our family got one for each member of our family just because we love Grand Junction High School.”
Provenza is also involved in the GJHS Booster Club that organized the brick sale. The bricks were on sale for around six months. The Booster Club offered 3 different types of bricks: 4×8 for $50, 8×8 for $100 accent bricks, and then large granite bricks for around the smaller tiger.
“People love to have their kids here and be part of a tradition, so they wanted to leave a personal mark,” said second-year GJHS Principal Jory Sorencen.
Staff members and people from the community who bought bricks were able to customize what was written on the bricks to make them more personalized for their family.
