Out of 26 class 4A teams, GJHS Cheer placed 13th at state.

The 2023 CHSAA State Spirit competition took place in Denver in the Denver Coliseum. The Colorado High School State Spirit Championships were held Dec. 7-9.

“I feel like [state] could have gone a lot better than it did but overall it was a great routine,” said GJHS senior Ava Martinez.

Last year, the Tiger cheer team placed 3rd at the state competition.

The team has three seniors including Estefani Soto, Ava Rinaldi and Martinez coached by Teaa Warinner.

After a decline in placement from last year’s state competition, the team has high hopes for next year.

“I think it’ll push next year’s team to get a higher placement and to work harder,” said Martinez.
