One of the Tigers key basketball players was sidelined with a season ending injuring in just the seventh game of this 2017-2018 season. Derek Shaver was looking to step into a leading role for the Tigers this season. The junior tore his ACL, LCL, and meniscus in a game against Eagle Valley on the 12th of December. The injury was detrimental to the team. It will put Derek out until around mid-August keeping him off the field for the 2018 baseball season as well. Shaver who is an infielder/pitcher for the Tigers earned a baseball scholarship to Wichita State University in October of 2016. The sophomore at that time accepted the offer and has been a verbal commit since February 5, 2017. The Shockers are a division 1 program based out of Wichita Kansas.
“I have a goal of being an all-state baseball player in my final high school season.” Shaver said.
Though he is sidelined for the rest of the year, Shaver looks to come back strong as ever. In his senior year Shaver has high expectations for himself.
