Latham Grapples with the Future at CMU
Seth Latham commits to wrestling at Colorado Mesa University.
Over the past six years of his life, Seth Latham has been preparing for the moment he commits to continue his wrestling career in college. From taking 1st at the CHSAA 5A-Region 3 qualifying tournament, to placing 4th at the Colorado High School Wrestling State Championships his junior year with the GJHS wrestling team, Latham is ready to commit to wrestling for the next four years of his life.
Latham’s hard work and perseverance to keep practicing throughout the year has landed him a spot on Colorado Mesa University’s(CMU) wrestling team for the class of 2022. Growing up in Grand Junction, Latham has grown fond for the university’s location and the relationships he has made with the coaches.
“CMU is in town, and I know all of the coaches, so it seemed like the right place for me,” Latham, senior, said.
Wrestling is not only a sport to Latham, but has also made its way into Latham’s daily life. Everything Latham has experienced as been impacted due to his wrestling career and his daily commitment to become the best he can be.
“Wrestling is apart of my life. Once I started wrestling, school and everything else in my life seemed easier compared to it,” Latham said.
The path to wrestling in college has not been easy, but Latham has made it with the help of a coach who has inspired him to become the wrestler he is today.
“Cole Allison, the wrestling coach at GJHS, has been there for me ever since I was little. He has helped me through all of the difficulties I face and encouraged me to get where I am today,” Latham said.
Besides wrestling, Latham plans on majoring in Engineering at CMU, as he wants to work in the oil fields one day, and loves being outside and working with his hands. While college is only a few months away for Latham, he still has this season to grapple with and finish out his senior year strong with the GJHS wrestling team, where he wrestles 170.
“I want to win a state title this year so I have been going in over the summer to wrestle, and working out daily,” Latham said.
Latham has a bright future on his shoulders as he continues his wrestling career in college, and strives to bring home a win for GJHS.
