The Grand Junction High School boys soccer team has an undefeated record and is ranked No. 7 in the state in Class 5A.
This year’s GJHS soccer team is one of the best in the state, having scored 35 total goals and allowing only three goals across nine games. They are undefeated with a total record of 7 wins, no losses and 2 ties. In the Southwestern League, the Tigers are 5-0-1.
“I think we can make it all the way and win the state championship this time,” said GJHS senior forward Luis Mendez.
The Tigers’ highest-scoring game was their 10-0 win at Aurora Central on Aug. 8. GJHS’ most recent game, at Gunnison, resulted in a scoreless 0-0 tie. The Tigers were ranked No. 1 in the state before ties with Montrose and Gunnison.
GJHS has victories over all three D51 opponents: 7-0 over Central, 4-0 over Palisade and 3-1 against Fruita Monument. Mendez, a big factor on the team, led the team last year with 36 goals (second in Colorado) and 80 total points.
The GJHS varsity boys soccer team has had good seasons in the past few years. In 2024, they went 12-3-1, and in 2022 they went 11-4. This year, GJHS has the potential to finish the season undefeated, having already beaten all four teams remaining on their schedule.
GJHS’ next home game is at noon Saturday, Oct. 11, against Durango High School. The final home game of the season will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, against city rival Central High School at Colorado Mesa University.
