Grand Junction High School has begun to pave the way for next year by electing the 2025-26 student council leaders.
The StuCo election results were announced Friday, March 21, a day after the election took place.
The election took place during an assembly on Thursday, March 20. Each candidate gave a brief speech to the student body presenting their ideas and plans as the future leaders of GJHS StuCo. The audience was then given the chance to cast their votes through QR codes.
“I’ve been in StuCo all of high school. I think it’s a really good way to give back to the community, because we do a lot of stuff around the school, but we also do a lot in the community,” said newly elected Student Body Officer (SBO) Co-President junior Jack Welling.
The senior class winners include juniors Abbey Johnson and Welling as the SBO Co-Presidents, junior Rubi Casiano as Senior Class President and junior Tirzah Ridgely as Senior Class Vice President.
Sophomore Sarah Richards will be next year’s Junior Class President, with sophomore Ellery Barney as the Junior Class Vice President.
The Sophomore Class President will be freshman Noah Jones and Sophomore Class Vice President is freshman Cole Litzau.
StuCo can play an important role at GJHS as they plan assemblies, dances, student section themes, and more.
“I want to get more spirit in our school and I want people to not hate coming to school and actually enjoy coming,” said Richards.
The freshman class leadership is yet to be determined, awaiting next year’s StuCo freshman class to arrive.
StuCo reported that 639 votes were recorded from students and staff.
