Grand Junction High School administration is always looking for new ways to help encourage students to succeed.
Their most recent idea is to have students who have an “F” or a “D” in any of their classes attend a one-on-one study session. For those who are passing their classes, admin will provide extended lunch in altered block day schedules on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and Thursday, Dec. 12, in hopes of clearing out most of the students so the ones that need help can get that help.
“Personally I have As and Bs, so I get a 2-hour lunch and that sounds great,” said GJHS junior Jacob Grigware.
In hopes of stopping ditching attempts from students, administrators will be posted at each door, catching those who try to slip out when they should be going to an assigned study session.
“There will be administrators at every single door blocking the door and not letting kids out,” said GJHS assistant principal Heather O’Brien.
There are also students, while they may not try to ditch, who don’t care about the extra study time, believing it won’t affect them. When asked for his opinion, freshman Noah Blickenstaff said, “I don’t really care about it.”
Block days will be adjusted to have two classes before the regular Study Time. When students finish their second class, they will then go to their Academy Class where those who have above Ds will be given a pass to go to the extended lunch.
The extended lunch will take place beginning at 10:50 a.m. Lunch will end at 12:25, making lunch for students who earned the privilege 1 hour and 35 minutes.
