Students and community members will have the opportunity to see a Grand Junction High School student’s documentary film on the big screen.
Junior Cameron Kirkegaard has created a documentary called “Our Time” about changes for women through the eyes of GJHS alumni. He interviewed several graduates from 1952 to 2024 and built a story of what it was like for women throughout this time at GJHS and their experiences with gender inequality.
“There’s some interesting ones from the graduates of 1960 and what they had to go through with the dresscodes, Title IX and the Women’s League of Voters,” said Kirkegaard.
The documentary itself was inspired by these very women who he talked to, Kirkegaard explained.
This is not his first documentary. Kirkegaard completed one while he was in eighth grade and freshman year called “A Relentless Climb.” Kirkegaard said “Our Time” is his biggest project yet, as it will be shown to the public in the GJHS auditorium.
He encourages people to attend and is hoping for a good turnout.
“Anyone can come and it’s free. We’re trying to get as many people as possible,” Kirkegaard said.
“Our Time” will be shown at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.
