Some of the new Grand Junction High School classrooms have been experiencing hot temperatures due to air conditioning issues.
Jory Sorensen, the principal at GJHS, shared in an email to GJHS staff that the air conditioning unit that serves the third floor of GJHS has experienced a compression failure. The part needed to fix the issue is not available locally. It is uncertain when the air conditioning unit will be fixed.
According to GJHS Assistant Principal Josh Warinner, the school hopes to fix the air conditioning within the next few days.
The issue began Tuesday, after returning from the three-day Labor Day weekend, when teachers experienced hot temperatures in the afternoon while teaching classes. Outside temperatures have been in the low 90s.
“It’s been so hot, that I can’t think,” GJHS junior Grace Herbanson said.
Sorensen sent an email to GJHS staff Wednesday morning encouraging teachers to relocate their classes if needed as classroom temperatures have reached 88 degrees. Teachers are able to move to other available classrooms, the commons, the auditorium, the library, and some teachers have even moved outside.
Some teachers have been rolling with the punches from the heat and have continued with class as normal.
“It’s easy. I’ve taught for 25 years. There was a flood at the old school. It’s nothing,” GJHS teacher Eric Brunner said.
