The 2023-24 school year is coming close to an end for current Grand Junction High School seniors, and there are a few upcoming events for them.

Currently, the seniors are playing a game called Tiger Tag, where they pay $15 to play with a team and they have to get their opponents out with a water gun. This activity happens outside of school unless with teacher consent.

A major upcoming event is not just for seniors but for juniors as well, which is prom. Seniors are especially looking forward to prom because it is their final high school dance.

“I am really excited for my last prom with all the seniors, some of which I’ve gone to school with for 12 years,” said GJHS senior class president Kaylee Kraft.

Prom will be held on May 4, 2024, at Bookcliff Country Club, with the theme being “Red Carpet.”

Another well-known upcoming event after spring break is Senior Ditch Day. The un-official day where all of the seniors ditch their classes and do some sort of activity.

“We plan on having Senior Ditch Day in April, as well as our last senior meeting as a whole class, which is the most important meeting going over graduation details,” said Kraft.

Seniors are looking forward to graduation and many are excited for what comes next. Graduation will be 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, in Stocker Stadium.

Many seniors have mixed feelings about not being able to move into the new GJHS building.

“My whole family graduated from [current GJHS], and I’d rather be the last to graduate here than the first to graduate [at the new GJHS],” said GJHS senior Murphy Harris.
