Kindness is Contagious week is coming up at Grand Junction High School and throughout Mesa Valley School District 51.
Monday, Feb. 25, through Friday, March 1, is a week mostly focused on bringing the community together. It not only includes GJHS but other schools such as Fruita Monument, Central and Palisade high schools.
“KIC week was a week invented by one of the student council advisors at Fruita Monument high school, Juli Webkins. This opportunity is a chance for students to give back to their community and show kindness in their school,” said GJHS teacher and leader of Student Council Mark Wilson.
This week is also thought to be a good way to help students with school and help people see that life isn’t so bleak. According to the website SSM Health, “psychological kindness can positively improve your brain.”
Another great part about this week is that it’s super easy for any student to participate in this week.
“The simplest way is to just be kind to people when you can say hi and saying hello and just simple things like that,” said GJHS junior and StuCO member Brayan Caro Gaspar.
Students can also look forward to spirit week days and an assembly. KIC sweatshirts will be for sale at lunchtime and after school for $20.
“So students can participate in a variety of activities during KIC week spirit week,” Wilson said.
The Spirit week includes:
- “Kindness is Warm” on Monday, meaning that students are encouraged to wear flannels and sweats.
- On Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear ties and bows as “Kindness Ties Us Together.”
- Wednesday is camouflage day, because GJHS is on the “Hunt for Kindness.”
- Thursday is green day, and students are encouraged to wear KIC gear that can be bought during lunch or after school.
- To finish the week off, Friday is “United in Kindness,” which means students wear Orange and Black.
