The month of February is full of assemblies organized by GJHS’ Student Council and by the school district.

Tuesday Feb. 6, the winter sports pep assembly was held to celebrate the achievements of all of the winter sports teams and other activities this year. Games like balloon stomping and the bachelor/bachelorette were held during the assembly held in the main gymnasium.

Thursday, Feb. 21,  there will be an all-school assembly regarding Narcan. Narcan is a prescription nasal spray designed to “rapidly reverse opioid overdose.” The assembly will be addressing issues with overdose throughout the community and how being near someone who is possibly overdosing on Fentanyl with Narcan on your person could prevent death in most instances.

“It gives you life-saving tips on how to help the person who is overdosing,” said GJHS Principal Jory Sorensen

Lastly, on Feb. 28, the final assembly of the month will be “Say Anything.” It will regard suicide prevention, bullying, sex trafficking, and addiction. This assembly is mandatory for all middle and high schools, and it is organized by an group dedicated to the recognition of these issues. There will be videos of real people who encountered some of these problems, and how to help them with whatever they have been through.

“They bring in TV screens and they show different stories and there’s multiple speakers involved,” said Sorensen.

There are two more assemblies scheduled for the rest of the year, one of them being the spring sports pep assembly, and one other smaller assembly during prom season.

I guarantee you, this will be chaos. I think that the next assemblies are a decent idea. The only problem is that I might get disoriented from them.
