The Jazz Band sets up for practice in room 127 on December 5. Isaac Lavadie is the director of the GJHS jazz band. “He is amazing at caring about the students,” GJHS sophomore and jazz band member Keid Medrano said about Lavadie.

Swingin’ Sweets 2023, a Grand Junction High School Jazz Band performance, is set to take place Friday, Dec. 8.

The event will last from 6 to 9 p.m. inside of the commons and cafeteria. Admission is free and the event will include concessions and purchasable clothing, jewelry, and holiday items.

“I think there is great potential for this Swingin’ Sweets to not only go well, but to also be one of the best to end off the year we will have in this school building,” said GJHS sophomore Keid Medrano.

According to GJHS band director Isaac Lavadie, the Swingin’ Sweets celebration has been an annual tradition since the 1990s. There will be two remaining jazz band performances during the 2023-2024 school year.

“I am very proud of this year’s jazz band,” said Lavadie.

The event was made possible by Colorado High Technologies LLC, a home security company throughout western Colorado.
