The GJHS Softball team wrapped up the season with success, qualifying them for regionals at Windsor High School near Fort Collins.
This is the first time the Tiger softball team has made it to the state playoffs in 6 years. The Tigers beat the Montrose Red Hawks 13-0 on Saturday, Oct. 7, to end the regular season.
“All of the girls put in a lot of hard work and we have a good team dynamic,” said GJHS sophomore Alexis Walpole.
GJHS is the No. 26 seed team out of 32 in the Class 4A state playoffs. Windsor is the No. 7 seed. The regional also includes No. 10 Pueblo West playing No. 23 George Washington.
The Tigers overall record so far this season is 13 wins and 9 losses. That is compared to last season with a record of 10-12 when GJHS missed qualifying for regional play.
“With it being the first time in six years, the team has overcome a lot,” said GJHS junior Maycie Sinicki.
The young Tiger team has no seniors, relying on seven juniors.
“My freshman year we started with all underclassmen so we built it from the ground up,” said Sinicki.
The exact dates and times have not yet been posted but games begin the weekend of Oct. 13-14.
