Grand Junction High School students are planning a lunchtime meeting to learn more about how books are banned.
GJHS counselor Alicia Hampton said it’s a collaboration between GJHS Book Club and Gay Straight Alliance. Anyone is welcome to attend the event.
“Book Club decided that they want to advocate against banning books, so that all materials are available to any student that wants them and so we decided to work together and invited other organizations who might be interested in the process of banning books,” said Hampton.
Mesa County Library executive director Michelle Boisvenue-Fox will be a guest speaker for the event. GJHS librarian Pam Middlemas will also be speaking.
“Miss Middlemas is going to talk about what that looks like in the school, in the district and who approves that, and that process. Just to give us a better understanding of what that looks like,” said Hampton.
