Grand Junction High School’s new principal Jory Sorensen plans to keep our school the same.
The school’s new principal Jory Sorensen loves the GJHS culture and he wants to keep it fairly the same. Although Sorensen is fond of the GJHS culture, he plans to enforce the rules more than they have been.
“My big thing is to not necessarily bring in a whole set of rules. It’s more about doing the things we already have in place, and just be consistent. We are keeping these expectations so you [students] feel safe. To walk in the bathroom and not be worried about if there’s a vaper in there. There has to be a level of expectation in our school,” said Sorensen.
Sorensen has always wanted to work at GJHS. He is thrilled to be here.
“I was a science teacher and a football coach at Mountain View high school in Loveland, and that’s where I began my career. Then when I became a principal I first went to Parachute, and I spent 9 years there. And then I went to Redlands, and I was at Redlands Middle School for the last 7 years. This [GJHS] is my fourth school in my career. It’s a bit of a dream for me [working at GJHS],” said Sorensen.
Sorensen knew he wanted to lead a high school. He likes to work with other students and he likes to be a part of everything occurring here at Grand Junction High School.
“My favorite part [of being a principal] is to be with students and see them succeed. Success is defined by you,” said Sorensen.
