Grand Junction High School students and staff are busy this year with overcrowded halls due to high enrollment.
During the pandemic GJHS had a decrease of students. Since our new school building is on the verge of being done, our numbers have increased over the past two years.
“I think it is a little bit crowded. Just like after the bell rings you’re like trying to go down stairs and there is like a big crowd of people like it’s just so annoying,” said GJHS junior Samantha Simonson.
Many students and staff have been very busy with the amount of students that have been in the classes and in the hallways. Many study halls have been filled with students that couldn’t be placed in classes they wanted.
Grand junction has 1,647 total students, 697 upperclassmen and 950 lowerclassmen, according to the counseling office.
GJHS counselor Dustin Giesenhagen said that we should have around 1,500 students here.
“We have a little bit more than that. We are just busy, busy all the time,” said Giesenhagen, who has worked at the high school for three years.

I remember when I could go outside during the passing period and there wasn’t an enormous crowd of people EVERYWHERE. Those were simpler times…

If I remember right, the class of 2025 was one of the biggest classes up to that point. Afterward came my class, which had something comical like 530 students, and then the 2027 class, which, at this point, probably makes up 99% of the school.
