The Inside on Baseball

The 2019 baseball season is underway at GJHS and the team is looking at snagging the 2019 Southwest League title from the defending Wildcat champions. As the season is just starting to appear over the horizon, practice and workouts began on February 27th. So far the team is excited to get things going after a long summer and an even longer, bitter winter.

 

The Tigers open up against Horizon at Suplizio Field March 7th. The Tigers will be ready to open play on the diamond.

“I’m looking to have a great season with my boys looking to get a lot of wins, and go to playoffs. I’m trying to get to college from here,” Jared Chapman, Senior said.

Chapman is ready to go into the season with a bang compared to a slow 0-6 start last year following 6 wins after.

“I’m going to do the best I can, have fun and build good teammate chemistry,” Chapman said.

Team chemistry is a crucial part of the formula and can’t be left out of the picture. a leading to team success.

The season will start earlier compared to next year, so the Tigers will only have one week to learn signs and get ready for the season opener. The season opener has always been a big indicator for setting the tone for the season.

“Bonding with the boys and having a fun year so I can enjoy my last one will be a key to winning games,” Sergio Moreno, Senior said.

According to Moreno, preparing for the season (off season) is a part of baseball you can’t take for granted.

“I’m going to play a lot of fortnite, work hard and grind it out,” Moreno, Senior said.

John Wampler, Junior and incoming varsity player is ready to work hard and help the tigers win.

“I’m looking forward to having fun and winning games, the grind never stops,” Wampler said.

Wampler is ready to make an impact in the starting lineup and chase fly balls down in the gap.
