Academic Team Brings Down the Hammer
The stakes were set high at last weekend’s Quiz Bowl. Our GJHS Academic Team was fighting for the top spot in a battle of pure knowledge and mental skill.
To be a competitor against schools like Fairfield and other schools from around Colorado it is important to crack open those books and be a part of the team.
“You have to want to be a part of the team and you have to have a desire to learn things, like a lot of things. You have to come to practice, study and have confidence,” Amanda Gordon, junior, said.
According to Gordon all kinds of questions are asked at the competition.
“History, math, literature, music, and geography, anything you learn in school is fair game,” Gordon said.
Academic team practice is basically a simulated competition with everything from buzzers to the seats arranged correspondingly. According to Mr. Shawcroft, Social Studies teacher and advisor for the Academic team, practice is all about brushing up on topics that may be addressed.
This quiz Bowl the Academic team brought down the hammer, scoring them a win at the Colorado State Quiz Bowl. The team’s hard work payed off giving them the confidence they need to win Knowledge Bowl in order to go to Nationals. Coming up the team will be traveling to CSU to compete in the Knowledge Bowl for the opportunity to bring home the ultimate win.
