6 Things You Should Know About Kimberly Becerra

  1. Kim can’t do what? When Kimberly was in middle school, she was a part of the basketball team and ended up with a severe concussion where she lost  her memory. “I was able to remember who my parents were after a couple weeks, but when the doctor asked me who I was, I really had no idea.” Due to this incident, Kimberly was told that she could not do any other sports aside from swimming.
  2. Kimmy swimming: She had been wanting to join a sport for a long time, but hadn’t done it since her accident. This year, her senior year, she decided she’d try it out. “I wish I would have joined sooner.” Kimberly joined the swim team without any previous experience and ended up loving it.
  3. #1 Fan: Throughout the whole swim season, Kimmy’s sister, Georgina, has been her biggest supporter/ fan. “She’s never missed a swim meet, and is always in the stands cheering her on, not only in the sport but in life in general. Without my sister, I don’t know what I would do or where I would be.”
  4. Putting in the work: “Being on a swim team with girls who have been swimming their whole life or have had previous experience is tough, but it’s nothing that I couldn’t achieve.” Kimberly’s biggest accomplishment this season was improving practice by practice, swim meet by swim meet. Kimberly claims that in the beginning she was not very good, but she has improved a lot from the beginning of the season to now, the end. Pretty impressive!
  5. All swimming aside: “I enjoyed swimming and the sport itself, but I also really enjoyed the company of my teammates and our coach. We had a lot of fun and made many memories.” One of the funniest memories Kimberly has of the season is when she told her coach that she was going to buy a Snickers and her coach took her out of Target, so she wouldn’t buy it.
  6. New beginnings: After high school, Kimberly is going to CMU to get her bachelor’s degree and major in biochemistry with a minor in psychology “so I can go to medical school and become a traveling pediatrician so I can help children in less fortunate countries.” She currently has 12 college credits due to her AP classes. She is very open to trying new things and adjusting to changes in her life and she wants everyone to “try new things no matter how old you are because you will never know what you could be good at unless you try and don’t let the fear of failure stop you from doing something you could possibly love.”
