Taking Home the Win
Boys’ varsity soccer Defeats Fruita for the 4th Year in a Row
Eleven-One wins, currently 18th in the state, and has beat Fruita Monument High School(FMHS) for the 4th year in a row. The GJHS boys’ varsity soccer team has been raising the bar as they take on a path to the Southwestern League Championship(SWL) for GJHS, with their latest win against FMHS.
“Last night was my favorite rival night as I made the best goal of my life to bring us a win over FMHS. Being undefeated against them for the past four years is amazing,” Jake Chaffetz, senior, said.
“Both wins against FMHS were very tight games and it was a great feeling that were were able to beat our rival,” Jose Ramirez, senior, said.
While the win against FMHS brought a victory for GJHS, the soccer team is aiming to bring GJHS another SWL Championship, since the last Championship 15 years ago, and their winning streak continues with the help of school pride.
“We are playing hard for GJHS and lot of that is due to school pride. It is great to see fans at our home games because we are one of the more successful teams and we want to thank them,” Chaffetz said.
“We really appreciate all of the support from our school, it motivates us to do our best,” Ramirez said.
Every team has their pre-game rituals and the soccer team is no exception, along with the motivation of playing with their best friends.
“All of my best friends are on the team and they are like brothers to me. We always huddle up and list goals for every game and our team motto is; It’s not because of that, it’s not because of money, works in my blood, we kill because we are hungry,” Chaffetz said.
The boys varsity soccer team continues to work hard as they finish out the rest of the season and head to the playoffs.
