Seniors Leave Their Mark
This year seniors are leaving their mark on GJHS by giving a senior gift of a pergola and proposing the idea to be able to decorate their caps at graduation.
Seniors have been wanting to decorate their caps for a time and decided to propose the idea to the building leadership team of teachers and staff including principal, Ari Goldberg.
“[The seniors] made their case on why they want to, we talked about it and discussed it and sort of voted on it and said yeah let’s give it a try,” Ari Goldberg, GJHS principal, said.
Some of this leadership team was opposed to the idea at first because they thought it would take away from the formality of the graduation. After discussion, they decided that because graduation is the seniors time to look back and celebrate how far they’ve come, they should be able to add this new feature.
Student council will communicate how seniors are allowed to decorate, ensuring that it is still appropriate.
Seniors have been wanting to decorate their caps because many other schools are able to, so seniors are excited to be able to do this.
“I think it’s pretty cool that they’re letting us do it, just cause we’re the first class that gets to,” Sofia Blackburn, senior, said. “I think it’s really cool that you get to express yourself and show what you have accomplished and what you’re going to do with your life.”
Another way seniors are leaving their mark on GJHS is by getting a senior gift of a pergola.
“We decided to get the pergola that’s being built out there because first we wanted it to be something that was useful and it was also the best idea because it would be a place where people can go, especially during lunch and eat or just be with friends,” Ashley Troester. senior class president, said.
The senior class especially wanted this gift this year as a place of hope and a way to remember the students we have lost.
