3 Tigers are Named All State Wrestlers
The wrestling team for Grand Junction High School this year did very well. They had a tremendous amount of success throughout the year. The wrestling team qualified for the State Tournament, and some of the wrestlers at GJHS made the All-State team.
Josiah Rider, who has already committed to Nebraska University for wrestling, made the First Team All-State. He had a very

successful year, being a 2 time state champion in his weight class, and also being named Colorado 5A wrestler of the year.
Dylan Martinez was able to make the All-State second team. He improved from last year, but still plans on making improvements.
“I improved from last year to this year. I’m proud I made the All-State Second Team, but that’s still not enough. I really feel that I can improve more and have a good season next year as a senior,” Martinez, junior, said.
Dylan wants a lot more in his future wrestling career. Being on the All-State Second Team, isn’t enough for him. He wants more and is willing to work for it.
Dawson Collins is a freshman at Grand Junction High School, and he made the All-State second team. Being a freshman and getting such a prestigious award is a pretty big deal.
“Last year I was in middle school, and I made it to State, but I didn’t win. And this year I made it all the way to High School State Finals. I also got talked to by Michigan which was pretty cool, especially being a freshman. This year I wrestled the number one kid in the Nation in my bracket, and he might be again next year, but I still want to try and win state,” Collins, freshman, said.
GJHS is full of wrestling talent. The school has a bright future, and with so many kids on the All-State team, you would hope to see GJHS winning state in upcoming years.
