Jake Chaffetz Story

Jake Chaffetz is an outstanding soccer player. He plays varsity soccer for Grand Junction high school and is well on his way to much more impressive heights playing soccer in college.

Jake has played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter his freshman, sophomore and junior year, but he decided to focus on one sport this year.

“I quit basketball to focus more on soccer,” Jake Chaffetz, junior, said.

Chaffetz said he doesn’t have much free time, playing both soccer and basketball was too much, especially when he is trying to focus on soccer.

“Quitting basketball was probably the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I love basketball and I’ve played it forever, but I have a really great opportunity with soccer. Going into the basketball season I expected to have it be my focus. Then I began to be recruited by multiple division one schools for soccer,” Chaffetz, said.

Chaffetz has been very devoted to soccer, focusing a majority of his time and energy on it.

“I am really busy with soccer. I do weights before school at 6:00 am, then straight from after school to a two hour practice with my dad. Once a week I travel to Utah to practice with my team. I am also out of town every weekend whether it is for a tournament or a camp. It’s tough, but it is the only way I can achieve my goal of being a division one soccer player,” Chaffetz, said.

It takes him about 5 hours to get to his weekly practice in Utah, which occupies a lot of time. He says it was worth making the difficult decision to cut basketball. He seems to be headed to doing great things in the soccer world.
