GJHS Student Athletes Sign to Colleges

On February 1st, Grand Junction High School was honored to have three student athletes sign to three colleges. Drew Derrieux will play basketball for William Woods University in Missouri, Camryn Sanchez will play softball for Chadron State College in Nebraska, and Trevor Olkowski will be playing golf for the University of Colorado Boulder.

All three student athletes were very relieved to sign. “It’s a stressful time trying to figure out where you’re going and what college you’re going to get into,” Olkowski said. Each athlete accentuated how relieved they were. “There was so much relief,” Derrieux said.

It was exciting for the athletes to be surrounded by friends, family, and coaches and cheered on as they signed. “It felt great,” Derrieux said, “Especially the words Coach Madison said.” The athletes were happy to have the people that motivated and supported them there.

The student athletes are looking forward to their next season at a higher level as well. “It was exciting to know that I’m going to continue my journey in softball,” Sanchez said “It’s definitely going to be a challenge, but I’m excited.”
