Josiah Rider Makes Verbal Commitment to Nebraska

Josiah Rider, Grand Junction High School, junior, wrestling in the 145 weight class, recently committed to the University of Nebraska. He’s hoping to get

a full-ride scholarship and is going to wrestle. Rider is currently the number one ranked wrestler in 5A and has won every tournament and match he’s wrestled during the regular high school season.

He seemed to have his mind fully set on going to Nebraska. He was even wearing a Nebraska hoodie and beanie, dressing out in all of the University’s gear. “They gave me a full ride and there has been several Olympic champions from there, world champions coming from those coaches, so I thought it was a good fit and close to home,” Josiah Rider, junior, said.

Josiah was offered many other opportunities as well, especially division one schools, but he stuck with Nebraska. “Ohio State, Iowa, North Carolina, pretty much every school called me,” Rider, said.

During November Rider went to the University and met the coaches. “I visited there this last November, and they took me around, and I met the coaches there. They’re really nice people and I know the people they’ve coached before. It’s a good wrestling program, they’re one of the best in the country right now,” Rider, said.

Rider also chose the school partly because of their past success. Rider is looking to pursue wrestling after college, and Nebraska has produced outstanding wrestlers.

Rider is looking to close this season and his senior year season out strong, to start and make is way to Nebraska for another track record of success. “Just keep winning and win state again, that’s pretty much the goal,” Rider, said. Short and sweet for someone who wants to keep winning, and has a bright future ahead.
