The GJHS girls swim and dive team swam their way back into the 4A state team 2025.
The GJHS girls swimming team placed 14th in state this year in the four events that they participated in. The events they participated in are the 200 medley, 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstrokes, 100 breaststroke, and 500 freestyle.
The state girls swimming event was held on Feb. 4-11 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton, CO. The GJHS girls swimming team competed on Feb. 7-8.
The Grand Junction swimmers that went to state were freshmen Abby Buschorn, Kennedy Kustur, Taylor Moses, sophomores Madalyn Dietrich, Bailey Pommaran, junior Emily Hardin, and senior Kylee Mull. The swimmers that attend GJHS are Mull, Dietrich, Moses, Pommarane, and Buschorn.
“The season for us was really good and state was as good for us,“ said GJHS freshman Taylor Moses.
Moses timed 2:01.16 for the 200 yard freestyle final, 59.81 for the 100 yard backstroke final. She also was seventh in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 200 freestyle.
Mull was 11th at state for the 100 breaststroke. Moses, Mull, and Pommarane placed 6th place in 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:05.73 for the Class 4A state meet.
The team scored points for various events: 34 points for the 200 medley, 9 points for the 200 freestyle relay, 16 points for the 100 backstrokes, and 12 points for the 100 breaststrokes, and 18 points for the 500 freestyle.
