Our Gold Key Winner

In Colorado,  over 6,000 pieces of art are submitted by around 2,200 students to The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Entries are judged on their originality, technical skill, and personal voice or vision. Students receive Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention, American Visions and Voices nominations, and Exalted at the History Colorado Center and spring awards ceremony. Gold Keys are then judged and receive national medals, including Gold, Silver, American Visions and Voices, Portfolio Silver with Distinction or Portfolio Gold medals, and special awards. National medalists will be recognized at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June 2018.

Annika Sisak, sophomore,  won a Gold Key and an honorable mention for her photography submissions. Submitted by her art teacher, Mrs. Wetherstein, based on  her ability to go above and beyond in her photography.

“One of the reason her photos stood out, from a lot of people, she really goes and looks for opportunities to take good photos and works well beyond class time,”  Wetherstein said.

Her art will be displayed in the art show March 3-30 during the Scholastic Art Exhibition at the History Colorado Center.

Annika was just doing school assignments when she got these amazing pictures.  Pura Algeria, the gold key winner, was  inspired  at the beach while in Mexico, and Grinding Gears,  an honorable mention, was taken at the state mountain biking competition.
