Tigers Stick Together

High school is like a wild roller coaster; there are ups, downs, fears, and adrenaline involved in this four-year ride. The 2016-2017 school year has been a trip, with both highs and lows.

With the school year turning the corner and starting it’s final stretch, its good to stop every once in a while and take a moment to listen to what students have to say. It seems that in every journey down the hallway, students are talking about how they would like for adults to become more aware of their feelings.

It is a given that school spirit hasn’t been as high as it has in the past; this year has been a lot more about growing than it has been anything else.

“From the tragedies of students passing away in GJHS, the student body has learned to find the good in each other,” Mackenzie Younker, sophomore said.

It is amazing to see that after all the heartbreaking events, our school has stayed united as one.

Students have started discussing the need for school assemblies to have more to offer, rather than the usual event being summed up to seniors throwing T-shirts and headbands into the crowd.

“I liked last years pep assemblies; this year they all seem to have the same plot and same message,” Payton Wilder, sophomore, said. In past school years, students would wait all week to have fun at the pep assemblies; this year, students just groan and seem inconvenienced.

The student council is trying to change assemblies for the better by getting students excited once again.

“We need more people to show up. The more people that come, the higher the school spirit. Overall, we just need more people to be leaders,” Mackenzie Younker, sophomore class president said. Not only do we need to improve the pep assemblies technologically (through the current sound system), but also through student participation. Let’s show our school spirit, Tigers!
